iRest® Yoga Nidra

iRest® Yoga Nidra is a wonderful, accessible form of guided mindfulness meditation.

Everyone can do it, even those who don’t think they can meditate. It is a systematic process for leading the body and mind into receptive states of relaxation and deep presence. Through this process we are able to access inner healing and enter into a deeper connection with all that is.

iRest is a form of yoga nidra that was evolved by Richard Miller, PhD.  As a clinical psychologist, he found ways to apply this ancient practice in a secular way that can be easily adapted to meet individual needs.  This trauma informed practice is being used to help people from all walks of life.  People report better sleep, reduced anxiety and depression. It is a profound healing tool.

There are many ways to apply this practice in yoga therapy:

  • Recordings – After exploration of your intentions and preferences, we develop a practice, or series of practices for you to use at home. I record these while we are together for you to use through Dropbox or Zoom.  The length of a practice can vary from 5 to 45 minutes.
  • Co-Meditation Dyads – In co-meditation, we sit together in the process of meditative inquiry.  We first begin by inquiring into ways that your body is communicating with you through sensation, emotions and thoughts.  We are in dialogue as you explore more deeply into your internal experience.  Internal Family Systems is a wonderful complement to this process.
