YOGA NIDRA:

Meditation . Movement . Restoration

Sundays, 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

January 8th to February 19th, 2011

Heartwood Center for Body, Mind, Spirit

1818 W. Dempster, Evanston

Yoga Nidra is a form of guided mindfulness meditation.  It is a systematic process for leading the body and mind into receptive states of relaxation and deep presence.  Through this process we are able to access inner healing and the pure awareness of being.  Yoga Nidra is a powerful tool to help eliminate stress, overcome insomnia, solve problems, resolve trauma, and neutralize anxiety, fear, anger and depression.  It is a process we can use to explore our life experiences and enter into a deeper connection with all that is.

In this series we use the Integrative Restoration (iRest) approach to Yoga Nidra.  Each class includes a long guided Yoga Nidra session (seated or laying down), prefaced by  gentle yoga movement to help prepare the body to enter deep rest.  Everyone is welcome, beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.  Please join us for this transformative experience!

Breath & Movement: a Yoga for Women Series

Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

January 21st to March 17th, 2012 (no class February 25th)

Heartwood Center for Body, Mind, Spirit

1818 W. Dempster, Evanston

$136 per 8-week session/$20 drop-in (if space is available)

In this Yoga for Women series we will explore the basics of Viniyoga. A key component of this approach is the coordination of breath and movement. By intentionally engaging the breath, we enhances spinal range of motion and change movement habits. It is an excellent way to create greater flexibility and strength while reducing risk of injury. Throughout the series we will explore these Viniyoga fundamentals:

+Directed use of the breath to enhance movement.

+Direction of spinal movement; forward, backward, twists, lateral, and extension.

+Adaptation of poses for specific needs.

+Appropriate sequencing for safety and fluidity, including preparation and counterpose.

+Ideas for personal home practice.

Our sessions are geared toward the needs of the participants in a non-competitive environment.  All women are welcome - experienced students and beginners alike.

Other Group Classes (see schedule below)

In group classes we experience a sense of “sangha” – community – which helps us share information, laughter, and our journey on the yoga path.  In these specialty group classes those with similar needs join together for a break away from everyday life.  Group classes can provide motivation and inspiration for one’s personal home practice.

YOGA FOR WOMEN  Through this non-competitive environment we apply the tools of yoga to benefit all levels of our being. We use movement to stretch and strengthen the body, including the pelvic floor and core muscles. Breathing calms the mind and nourishes the adrenal glands for a more relaxed state of being.  Meditation and personal ritual help to refresh the spirit and nurture the soul.

GENTLE YOGA  Gentle yoga is a slower paced class that is gentler on the joints.  We use the tools of yoga to create a calm, relaxing class that restores the body, mind and spirit.  All levels are welcome to attend.

GOLDEN YOGA  This class is a great way for anyone to stay active, flexible and strong.  Geared towards seniors, Golden Yoga is perfect for anyone who wants to move at a slower pace with specific instruction.  We include deep breathing to energize the body and mind, movement to lubricate the joints for greater flexibility, and poses to challenge and maintain balance.

PRENATAL YOGA  Yoga is an excellent way to prepare the body for the changes during pregnancy.  It cultivates flexibility and strength, as well as concentration and breath control; invaluable tools during labor and birth. It can be beneficial for every stage of pregnancy, and gives the ever-changing pregnant woman tools for self-awareness and relaxation.  A regular prenatal practice also helps the body prepare for postpartum recovery.  Private sessions only.

SPECIAL GROUP CLASSES Group classes can be specially created for the needs of a specific group.  Possibilities include a one-time workshop, a special series, or other special event.  Special topics include:  stress reduction, office yoga, therapeutic focus (e.g. neck & shoulders), birthday parties, and other life celebrations.
